aim4art is a voluntary community arts group, formed in 2009, dedicated to pushing our personal artistic boundaries. We aim to paint, aim to draw, aim to create art. We meet every Tuesday (10am-4pm) at The Barn, Hemlington, Middlesbrough, TS8 9DA. We have no regular tutor, but support each other and organise a programme of visits and workshops.

Ushaw College Visit

We went to see the interesting Matisse: Drawing With Scissors Exhibition, while also enjoying a walk round the college and a visit to its famous chapel. Afterwards it was on to the Bob Abley gallery at Spennymoor to see work by Norman Cornish, Tom McGuiness and others. The reconstruction of Norman Cornish's stdio was particularly worthwhile.

Featured Artists:
Ruth Davies & Kate Geelan

Ruth davies

As artists Ruth and Kate share a lot of common ground, both in terms of subject matter and technique. Both are interested in felting and collage as well as painting and both like to include a lot of texture into their work, as seen in Ruth's picture of The Priory. Kate has a particular interest in the Yorkshire coastal villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay, while Ruth specialises in the sweeping landscapes of the North Yorkshire Moors.

One of our more recent additions is Gill Place's lovely collection of work resulting from her sketch-a-day challenge, completed in 2021. These snowdrops are an example.
